"People have never looked so ugly as they do today, regarding their dress. We are so conformist, nobody is thinking. So I’m saying buy less, choose well, make it last."

Fashion prophetess, Susie Bubble wearing the now infamous Mary Katrantzou for Topshop bowl dress which she kinda helped leak a few months ago. She says in today’s blog,
“The incredulous reaction isn’t of course over the fact that Mary Katrantzou has done a collaboration for Topshop but that it is so full and rich and in someways ever closer to her mainline collection.”
Indeed this is the closest one can ever get to a Katrantzou piece without selling a kidney.
The whole collection was unveiled today and drops on February 17. No word yet on when it will reach Philippine shores.
The Fashion Speak Approval Matrix by Amy O’Dell
—
Absolutely relevant at the eve of the 2012 Fall/Winter season shows, is this fantastic article on the language of fashion criticism by Amy O’Dell.
She writes, “Such pedestrian words have fallen out of fashion in favor of exaggerated language that, while expressing enthusiasm for clothes, doesn’t give us any insight into why they’re so wonderful. We have come to expect the world’s fashion authorities to “die” or “stop breathing” when they find a pair of shoes that’s especially “fierce” or “tranny,” or perhaps when they find a model “werking” a particularly “mayjor” “smize” or “lewk.” And we’re happy with this, even though precious few of the world’s most famous fashion experts truly make a habit of articulating why certain clothes can be so great.”
Karl Lagerfeld, in the new Metro newspaper he guest-edited, fires back at those who suggest he does too many collaborations (ahem Robin Givhan): “I couldn’t care less. It depends if I know the people. If unknown people say this, they should send me a note and explain why. The limit is up to me to decide.”

Ryan McGinley’s Beautiful Rebels — a short video for sustainable fashion label, Edun. Featuring music by the inimitable soul quartet, The Majestic Arrows.
A few days ago when Nan casually mentioned Stolen Girlfriends Club in a conversation about fantastic knit sweaters, his voice trailed off like the wisp from the cigarette he was smoking. It was my own imagination muting him off of course, as I already went back to the time when I first viewed this video of their Untitled 2011 collection.
It was a runway show in a grocery. A FRIGGIN’ RUNWAY SHOW IN A GROCERY.
Models delivered by food van, enter the turnstiles, tore up the length of the aisles, oblivious of the stunned shoppers. Of course this idea might have been in every fashion show director wannabe’s mind and probably has already been done before, but what the heck, the Kiwi boys of SGC did it and did it well. There’s a galaxy more of things I want to write about them (THEIR NEW COLLECTION’S LOOKBOOK IS OMG—) but let’s reserve that for another post.
In his first new work since being released from government custody, chinese art star Ai Weiwei collaborates with W on a series of arresting images—from half a world away.

Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci directs a visual meeting of minds in Dazed’s 20th-anniversary special October issue, with former Dazed fashion director Katy England and art shaman Matthew Stone combining to create a darkly decadent extravaganza. Many of the models discovered and championed by Tisci present personally chosen pieces from his six-year reign at Givenchy.
